Fear Filter

The photo filters in the Fear Filter app colourise and transform your photos.

Can I try it?

Yes! please do - navigate to fearfilter.uk on your mobile device

Rather than just adjusting how your photos look the filters create a visualisation of the UK Terror Threat Level.

Each filter corresponds to a different Terror Threat Level and is generated by gathering current and historical information about the UK Terror Threat Level from the web services of MI5, the UK security service.

The filters redact and pixelate a percentage of the image using a sliding scale where the severity of the threat correlates to the area of redaction. The higher the Threat Level the greater the percentage of redaction and the less of the original photo that is visible.

The UK Terror Threat Level

The UK Terror Threat Level is set by the uk government and the UK intelligence agencies. Since 2006 there are 5 levels of threat: Critical, Severe, Substantial, Moderate and Low.

Each photo filter corresponds to a different moment in time and the related Threat Level from that period.

Fear Filter is built on irational.org servers with tracking.js
